How important is your Roof?

Your roof is one of the most important parts of your home.

Plywood H Clips – clips increase panel stiffness by allowing distribution of weight between adjacent panels. A panel is less likely to deflect when subjected to a heavy load near its edges if it is made stiffer. Panels are more likely to buckle or warp when their room for expansion is limited.

Roof Felt - Roofing felt acts as a waterproof barrier between the sheathing and the roofing material. We recommend using 15-30 lb. but 30 lb is better roofing felt. It is necessary to overlap roofing felt (tar paper) by code 2”. We recommend 3”

Valley Flashing – When installed correctly, the valley flashings provide a weather-tight seal against the elements. Poorly constructed/installed valleys may cause roof leaks and are very difficult to repair. Proper valley construction and installation is very important for proper roof drainage.

Attic Ventilation - Attic ventilation is so important. Ridge vents and soffit vents can remove heat and prevent frost problems through the changing seasons. Poor attic ventilation in colder climates can cause frost and condensation to form on the underside of your roof. It can rain inside your attic. I have personally witnessed this phenomena. In hot climates, elevated attic air temperatures cause your air conditioner to work longer and harder. Asphalt shingles, roof boards, and insulation can be damaged by elevated temperatures.

The state of Georgia DOES NOT have proper roof inspection. If you call the licensing board they will tell you that they do NOT have a specialty license for roof contractors like Florida and other states. The only requirements to call yourself a roofer is to show proof of three roofs or repairs you have done. Hello Really!
